On our recent cover, lifestyle & fashion shoot of Noella Coursaris for Cotswold Style magazine, we had the pleasure of working with Justin Golby from Golby Creative and we just wanted to share with you this stunning video he made of the day, taking a cinematic view of the beautiful clothing provided by  Azzedine Alaia, Paris and of course, the gorgeous Noella herself. Click HERE to check it out!

I’m not usually a fan of myself on film but Justin has managed to somehow capture the essence of the shoot beautifully & effortlessly; not only of the clothing and the model, but of the day itself and what we got up to behind the scenes.

I’ve gotta say, we’re loving the music and the natural yet slick finish to this film – it was so fun working together and we hope to be able to collaborate on another stylish project again soon!

Cotswold Style September Front Cover with Noella Coursaris
Cotswold Style September Front Cover with Noella Coursaris

We recently had the pleasure of shooting international model and humanitarian Noella Coursaris for September’s issue of Cotswold Style Magazine, who wanted a cover photo and shots for both a fashion spread and an article about Noella and her work.

We chose Cowley Manor as the backdrop; it’s interior design boasts some unique features (can you name another manor house with a warthog’s head and zebra’s buttocks hanging on the wall?), whilst the exterior and grade II listed gardens are classically Cotswolds.

We started the day with another quick recce of the venue to finalise our shoot order.  In the meantime our chosen hair and make-up artists (Lisa Walby of Francesco Group and Kerry Wilcocks of Tonic respectively) got to work on Noella whilst her friend and internationally-renowned stylist and Artistic Director Saloum began sorting the outfits, kindly provided for the shoot by acclaimed fashion designer Azzedine Alaia.

I should mention at this point that I wasn’t the only one wielding a camera during this shoot, as we were joined by Justin Golby of Golby Creative Ltd.  Justin documented the whole day and you’ll be able to see his film of the shoot soon, having seen a preview I can’t wait to share it with you all.

We chose a plain lime green interior wall for our first shots and once styling had been completed and coffee had been consumed work got underway, with Noella quickly demonstrating why she’s been chosen as the lead for numerous fashion campaigns such as Agent Provocateur and appeared in magazines such as Vanity Fair and Arena.  Her style and professionalism is effortless and it was a genuine pleasure to work with her.

Our next shots featured another Congolese resident in the form of the oversized head of a Mandrill (first time for everything!).  Even with it’s brightly-coloured facial features it still paled in comparison to Noella, who wore an incredible cream dress from the Parisian fashion label.

After bagging the cover shot in Cowley’s leather-clad billiard room we moved outside.  Thankfully we were graced by the sun’s presence at this point and we were able to get another great selection of photographs, both on the terrace and outside the adjoining Church of St Mary before the sun decided that it’d had enough for one day.  Time for lunch!

During the course of the morning we’d been joined by Noella’s husband James and their adorable children, so after everyone had eaten we headed outdoors again, this time choosing one of the Manor’s lakes and water features as the backdrop for some family shots.  Naturally her children all look great in front of the camera and they behaved perfectly, so we got some smashing pics.  Despite a downpour during lunch and the threat of more rain in the air it stayed dry, which was something of a blessing!  One of the resident swans came in for a closer look at one point, I suspect it just wanted it’s picture taken too.

Next we decided to push our luck with the dry weather and move to a location close to Cowley’s spa – it features a colourful art instillation which made for a great place to shoot, with Saloum picking out accessories that matched the colour scheme perfectly.

Our final shots of the day were taken in Cowley’s reception area, shot from above whilst Noella posed in a leather chair.  We weren’t sure about it as a location to begin with but I’m glad we went for it as we think it looks awesome!

A massive thanks again to everyone that was involved in making this shoot happen, especially to Noella.  Her work not only as a model but as a humanitarian and founder of the Georges Malaika Foundation is hugely admirable and inspiring.

You can read more about her in this month’s copy of Cotswold Style which can also be viewed online HERE and by visiting her website.

A few months ago, my husband and creative visionary Davey Terrific (yes he really is) came up with a shoot concept that we both thought would be a fantastic way to showcase some of the local fashion industry talent. Working in conjunction with Cotswold Style Magazine we were able to bring this concept to life and to a much wider audience and we are proud to say it features as the cover image and a four page fashion spread in this month’s edition [July ’14].

The idea behind this shoot is simple: the eyes of the fashion world are so often drawn to London or Manchester but as massive advocates of supporting local business we wanted to focus purely on design talent and independent boutiques in the area and so the “Made in Cheltenham” concept was born.  We’ve made it our mission to work with the most talented people the area has to offer, so this was a perfect excuse to do just that.

“Made in Cheltenham” is an obvious play on the “Made in Chelsea” title but that’s where the similarity ends; there are no false smiles, backhanded compliments and appalling acting here!

We want to shout about our local designers – such as Kelly Thorne who provided two outfits for the shoot. These outfits epitomise contemporary Cotswold fashion; the first one shown below gives a nod to traditional tweed, but the cut & colour provide an exciting take on the traditional, suitable for the fashion-conscious lady of any age.

What tweed-clad lady is complete without an equally tweedy man? In the Cotswolds we’re surrounded by a plethora of stores that offer a great range of tweed but for this project we chose to work with Cheltenham-based Horace Barton, who provided our male model’s attire in the images below.  They provide a smashing range of outfits and a full service with bespoke tailoring to-boot. We loved their mix of classic Cotswold fashion juxtaposed with a great range of jacket styles, shirts, dapper bow ties and braces.  We love the addition of the suede gun shoulder patch on the jacket featured below; tres manly.

Another firm local favourite of ours is Olive Clothing.  Based just off Cheltenham High Street they provide a classy yet affordable take on the incursion of boho trends into high fashion. Simple lines, mainly pastel tones & flattering cuts – to us, that makes for some extremely wearable outfits that you can dress up or down depending on whether you’re going for festi-chic or girl-about-town.

Of course, the Cotswolds also houses a number of boutiques that specialise in sourcing the best in designer fashion, so the shoot wouldn’t have been complete without representing some of these choice brands. Montpellier-based Boutique 3 provided the outfit used on the cover image and also for the shots shown below from designer labels Stefanel, Graham & Spencer, Filippa K, Hugo Boss & Velvet.

In addition to Boutique 3, central Cheltenham-based Trapeze also kindly offered to be part of this shoot, providing key pieces from Vivienne Westwood, Paige, Maisin Scotch, Ganni, Diesel, Scotch & Soda, Lyle & Scott & Lacoste’s new collections. We fell in love with the green lace Gianni dress, so on-trend for this season.

No fashion shoot would be complete without jewellery and we wanted to show that Cheltenham has it’s own home-grown design talent.  We were lucky enough to have Stephanie Bates on-board who went the extra mile by painstakingly crafting some of the pieces you see especially for the shoot!  Now, these are truly some beautiful & utterly original creations for men & women.  They are most definitely classed as fine art jewellery and deservedly so; hand-crafted, each piece is unique and bespoke designs can also be made to order.

We love our shoes too and local designer shoe brand Keith Scarrott kindly provided some of this season’s finest footwear to complete our looks. Summer sling-back sandals, killer heels and some of the softest leather pumps you could ever imagine all feature.

Stunning Foxhill Manor provided the backdrop for our shoot and we couldn’t have picked a more perfect venue.  It’s exterior is quintessentially Cotswolds but step inside and you’ll find it super-charged with contemporary styling, uber-modern finishings and all the “of the minute” gadgets and gizmos you can shake a stick at, including it’s own media room equipped with home cinema, blackout blinds, gaming stations, surround sound and a multitude of coloured beanbag chairs, not to mention comic strip wallpaper.

Yes, much like many people’s pre-disposed concepts of the Cotswolds & Cotswold fashion, it may appear to be traditional & historic on the outside but I assure you, there is more there than meets the eye and if you look closer, you’ll see that there’s a veritable banquet of contemporary design when you delve deeper inside.

The shoot wouldn’t have been possible without hair & make-up artist Jodi Croft who styled a look to suit each outfit. She’s another local talent who we’ve worked alongside for many years and her professional styling never fails to hit the mark.

We were also lucky enough to be loaned the classic Bentley you see in the image below from Azure Cars. We felt that the classic elegance of the Royal Blue Bentley really set the tone for the shoot.

Finally, we would have nothing without the time, energy and fabulousness of our models and we’d like to personally thank each one of you for giving up your time and making it such an epic shoot;  Ashleigh Millman, Malcolm Williams, Jess Bracey, Isabella Nash, Peter Lloyd & Elliott Caunce

I’ll leave you with a few of my favourite shots that show the whole nine yards.

Last month we were involved in a very exciting shoot in the heart of the Cotswolds on behalf of London designer Masato

– here’s a bit about what we got up to….

It all came about through the power of twitter as we follow Masato and had noticed all the amazing high end formal wear and cool Tee’s that kept popping up on our twitter feed.

So, we introduced ourselves and shortly after a tweet chat, my husband (and creative director) and I went down to London to chat fashion over coffees just next to Hyde Park.
It soon became apparent that we simply had to work with such talented, relaxed and simply cool people – it’s clear to see that Masato & his business partner Mike have a lot of passion for fashion (pardon the pun) and we are thrilled to be working with them.

We set up this shoot at an amazing home / fashion boutique called Lapstone which is based just a few miles outside of Chipping Camden in the heart of the Cotswolds.

On this shoot, we brought in make-up artist Monika Vrublova who we’ve worked with most recently on a shoot for the Cotswold Sheep Mystery PR Campaign, and you can see from the results that the make-up styling was absolutely bang on trend suiting the garments to a T.

We also asked super hair stylist Christopher Murphy to get involved who we worked with on an epic fashion shoot at Thornbury Castle – we saw his mad skills then and couldn’t wait for the next project to get him involved with!

The models we used were Chris Hughes who we’ve worked with many times and who is a fantastic male model – great at his job and one of the loveliest models we know.
We also used Iris Fitzgerald, who is equally lovely and has worked with us on some great shoots in the past and is a consummate professional – she is just effortless!
We had not worked with our brunette model before, Lucy Spelman, but she was a great find and we can’t wait to work with them all again soon!

We were thrilled to find our shoot had made it’s way into two publications:
One being online London’s Meade magazine, and you can find the article here; http://meademagazine.com/masatos-right-on-the-button
The other spread can be found in non other than the fabulous Cotswold Style Magazine’s June issue: http://www.cotswoldstyle.co.uk/digital-magazine

We think that’s the sign of a job well done and very much look forward to seeing the new Masato collection later in the year!
